BUL Fall/Winter Indoor Rules

  1. UPA Rules of Ultimate (10th Edition) and BUL amendments will apply, except for the following amendments for indoor play. Remember, Spirit of the Game! Because of the confined space of indoor ultimate, please take extra precautions to avoid contact in every way possible.

  2. Indoor will be played as a 5/1 league. Teams must have at least 5 players on the field at all times, with a maximum of five players of either sex and a maximum of six players in total. Captains Rule applies.

  3. Stall counts are to 8 NOT 10.

  4. Games are timed to a MAXIMUM of 60 minutes from the posted start time. Any warm up or other delays must be included in the total game time. Teams may elect to not have a half. The end of a game is determined by time, not by the score. Games can end even if the score is tied. If the game clock is set incorrectly, it should be adjusted to coincide with the time clock at the earliest opportunity.

As a courtesy to teams that play after you, please leave the field promptly. There is absolutely no “Ultimate Time” in indoor.

  5. There is no pull after a point. When a team scores, the receiving player acknowledges that he/she has scored a goal and the disc is immediately placed on the ground and the offensive team has 8 seconds to take possession of the disc.

  6. If, after 8 seconds the team on offence has not picked up the disc, the defense may issue a "delay of game" warning and begin counting down from 8 and then begin the regular stall count. When the offensive team takes possession of the disc, the defensive team may initiate a stall count on 0 (as in every other situation, the player on defense must be within 3 meters to initiate a stall count).

  7. Players substitute on the fly. There will be designated "substitution" area for each team at the midline of the field. Every player entering the field must "high five" the outgoing player before entering the field. This obviously does not apply during injury substitutions.

  8. When the disc hits an object (wall, ceiling, player on the sideline) it is out-of bounds. A turnover results and the play starts on the playing field proper, closest to the point where the disc went out of bounds.

  9. The end zone is much smaller, approximately 8 - 10 metres deep.

  10. If a disc is thrown out the back of the end zone, it is to be put into play at the front, straight ahead of where it crossed the back end zone line.

  11. Thrower must be over half to throw into the end zone for a point. If the thrower is not over half and the disc is caught by an offensive player in the end zone, the result is a turnover and the disc is put into play at the front of the end zone, straight ahead of where it was caught.

  12. If the pull lands out of bounds, it may be played at either: (a) the point on the sideline where it crossed; or (b) the receiving team may call middle, in which case, it is put into play in the middle of the field, but no further than the front of the end zone.

  13. Each team has 2 timeouts per game. Teams may also stop play to explain rules to newer players.

  14. If only one team fails to signal readiness for the start of a scheduled game, the opposing team shall be awarded goals at a rate of one goal for every 5 minutes elapsed after readiness is signalled, to a maximum of 3 points. If the team has not signalled readiness before 20 minutes, the team will default and a score of 15-0 will be awarded to the opposing team.

  15. Teams are designated as either dark or white on the schedule. To prevent confusion, grey is neither dark nor white.

  16. Winning & losing captains must report game score each week.

Substitutions

If a player is unable to make a game, a substitute of same or lesser skill may be used as a replacement. Please inform your captain so that he/she may make arrangements. Substitutes MUST be registered B.U.L. Fall/Winter Indoor members. If a registered player cannot be found, an unregistered player may sign a waiver and pay a nightly fee of $10. Opposing captains must be informed of substitute players and may refuse if the substitute is a stronger player than the missing player.
