About B.U.L
The Barrie Ultimate League (B.U.L) is a non-profit organization dedicated to
serving the needs of Ultimate players in the Barrie area. We organize league
play for the summer, run skills and strategy clinics, and host the No BUL Bowl
tournament.
Board of Directors
- Know the rule book very well
- Know the league playing guidelines
- Attend board meetings
(all volunteers, others are welcome to meetings but will have no vote)
- Consists of Executive, Directors & Team Captains
- Democratic decision making body for BUL
Executive
President
- Chairman of the Board
- Coordinate the actions of the other volunteers
- Act as spokesperson for BUL
- Communicate information to the BUL league
- initiate monthly board meetings and regular e-mail discussions
- coordinate clinics and/or recruit Clinic Director
Vice President (Convenor)
- Shall carry out the duties of the President in their absence, or in the
event of his or her inability or refusal to act; and when so acting, shall
have all the powers of and subject to all the restrictions upon the President;
- Assist the President in the fulfillment of their duties
- co-ordinate registration
- Create teams and schedule
- Mediate identified captain & game issues
- introduce spirit points/scales
- ensure registry list is accurate (who has paid)
Treasurer
- Manage the BUL bank account
- Collect money at registration
- Collect waivers & registration information sheets from participants
- Communicate player information to the appropriate captain
- Collect money from t-shirt/disc sales
- Pay BUL bills
- Present financial information at BUL meetings
- Communicate financial restraints to BUL Committee
- Project league costs and consult with Convenor to determine registration fee
Directors
Fields Director
- Secure playing fields for the season league games and pickup nights
2004: space for 6 Monday night games and 2 Thursday games suggested
- copy permits to captains
- collaborate with treasurer and convenor re: registration
- ensure capt’s have cones and hazard markers
- Arrange required insurance
Merchandise Director
- Purchase BUL Discs, t-shirts & any other merchandise
- Responsible for the storage/sale of extra merchandise
Touring Director
- Communicate information regarding Ultimate tournaments
- Coordinate tournament touring teams
Marketing Director
- Produce & distribute advertising media
- Promote the league throughout Barrie and area
Communications Director
- Maintain website, including league standings
- maintain league database and e-mail list
- send mailings as directed by executive
Team Captains
- Know the rule book very well
- Know the league playing guidelines, offer amendments at BUL meetings
- Run skills clinics during the preseason
- Take all responsibility for communicating necessary information to all
team mates and voicing any Team Concerns to the league at league meetings
or by direct communication to the person responsible for the relevant part
of the league operations
- Find an appropriate replacement when absent
- Train others to be captains for future teams
- attend pre-season and monthly meetings after game to discuss league and
issues
- award spirit points at conclusion of each game
- take responsibility for guiding teammates into spirited competitive play
(cheers, on field behaviour, etc.)
- Encourage team mates to attend, improve and get involved
- Coordinate the punctual start (by 7pm at the latest) & end of the game
(by 9pm)
- Take responsibility for league issued team set of cones & ensure cones
are set up for the game & that they are retrieved afterwards, cones are
to be returned to the league by the end of the season
- Work out the jersey colours before the game begins
- Work out any modifications to the rules for that particular game (captain's
clause)
- Negotiate potential defaults with a spirit of competition mixed with grace
- Mediate any potential disputes (gotta know the rules, keep the game moving,
there's really no place for discussion of any incident, a call is made,
accept or contest and move on accordingly - don't let it become a court
case or debate)
- Monitor weather and ensure the games are stopped when thunder or lightening
are in the area
- Report scores to communications director within 24 hours
- Greet new faces warmly and provide any information requested
- Coordinate the end of the game with respect to timecap and darkness
