Competetive Championships!

Congratulations to the Kids who won the competetive championships with a 2 point win over Jesse’s team.  It was a nailbiter, but the Kids pulled it of, even though they played with 6 players for most of the game.

Andy’s Team beat Bulk Barn in the consolation.

Greta season everyone!  See you at Indoor!

Cheers,

Jim

Hi everyone,

Here is the news you’ve all been waiting for:

The play-off tournament this Saturday, August 28 at the Holly Community Centre (HCC)/ Holly Meadows Elementary School (HMES) will include 8 teams (2 couldn’t field a full team).

There will be two pools of 4 teams, each team will play the other 3 in their pool once. Then the top team from each pool will play each other for the championship, and the second teams will play for 3rd, etc. Games will be 40 minutes each, with set start times and hard cap times. If one team reaches 15 points before the 40 minutes is up (which I don’t think has happened yet), the game ends then. Your captains have the details for the start/end of games, and captains of all teams playing are to attend a meeting prior to the start of the tournament. Please make sure you bring your flags if you got them from me.

POOL A: H, J, F, E (@HCC)             POOL B: I, A, (B&C), D  (@HMES)

GAMES:

9:00 – 9:40 am          H vs J          I vs A

F vs E          (B&C) vs D

9:55 – 10: 35 am       H vs F           I vs (B&C)

J vs E             A vs D

10:50 – 11:30 am    H vs E            I vs D

J vs F             A vs (B&C)

FINALS: 11:45 am Fields TBD

PLEASE NOTE that there are penalties for teams not able to start at 9:00 am so make sure you are on time.

The address is 151 Mapleton Ave, it’s just west of Essa Rd on Mapleton. There are several linked parking lots, you have to go to the back to see the two fields. The fields are separated by a line of trees, and the “league tent” with bagels and fruit will be between the two fields. Water jugs will be supplied to each field. You are responsible for your own electrolytes, sunscreen,

Captains are to meet the convenor at 8:30 am to go over rules and subs, and subs are to show up at 8:40 so all the captains can see who’s who. Anyone from a Monday team not already subbing on a team, please come at 8:40 and we will see if we can find a spot for you.

See you all on Saturday!

Talena

I have updated the Monday night schedule after the cancellations on the 9th; please check to make sure you go to the right fields.

CAPTAINS: I have updated the scores that I have, and I have made all the games for which I have no scores into 0-0 TIES. I need the right scores so the standings are accurate. TUESDAYS this applies especially to you as your play-offs start next week and I need to make sure the standings are right. If I don’t get scores, I will place the team with the most “unsubmitted games” in last place and work up from there.

PLAY-OFFS: Tuesday nights are at Eastview at your regular game time, starting next week (August 17) with 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4, the on August 24, the two winners play for the championship and the other two play for 3rd. Monday nights your play-offs are a tournament on the DAY of August 28th, at the Holly Community Centre and adjacent field. We will have food and drinks, but no bbq this year as we’re not allowed to at that location. If you know of a near-by place we’d be permitted to have a bbq, let me know. We will most likely have pizza if we can’t find a place for the bbq.

So once again, all the city fields are closed due to the rain yesterday and today, and unfortunately that means our games tonight are cancelled. As per last time, the games will be shifted forward and I’ll do that on the schedule later this week. The first two games of the season were exhibition, so even with the two nights’ cancellations, each team plays the others once “for real”.

This does mean you won’t be seeing your team and captain tonight, so please let them know if you can or can’t make it to the tournament on the 28th.

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder, the play-off tournament for the Monday night Rec league is on Saturday, August 28 and will run from approximately 8 am – 2 pm. I will post more info as it gets closer, but for now please mark your calendars and let your captains know if you can make it. It’s a great day of ultimate and a nice way to see a bit of what a tournament is like.

The schedule for Monday nights has been updated.

Stall Fall is a tournament held annually in Guelph, and it has a division for teams with little tournament experience. It’s a fun tournament and a good way to get your feet wet if you’ve been playing in the league and wondering what other fun ultimate stuff there is to do. If enough people are interested, we’ll put in a bid for a Barrie team. The tournament is Saturday & Sunday September 19 & 20. Please email Steve Vanderschee if you are interested at steven@barrieultimate.com.

Ranked  4th again this year Barrie North is competing if OFSAA  this Thursday May 14th from 8:30am to 5pm at the Barrie Sports Complex.   32 high school teams from Chatham to Ottawa, Stoney Creek to Barrie are competing.   BUL wishes you the best of luck!
