Ultimate Junkies (Newmarket Ultimate and surrounding area league) are hosting their first “annual” Flying Hi Tourney on Sept 12 and 13th in Newmarket, at Bayview Park (aka – George Richardson Park).
The cost is $42 a player and includes a continental breakfast, prizes, $5 East Side Mario’s Voucher (Newmarket location) and admission into a Saturday night “Flying Hi” Party at the White Rabbit (Main St. Newmarket).   Information can be found here or by email contact@ultimatejunkies.com.
If you’re interested in going as part of a Barrie Ultimate contingent, email Steve VanderSchee at steven@barrieultimate.com.

We’ve received announcements for two tournaments being held on September 13-14: the Spirit Ultimate Charity Tournament in Ottawa, and a hat tournament in North Bay (raising funds for a 13-year-old girl who was diagnosed with brain cancer).

I’ve set up separate forum discussions for each tournament, here and here. This is also the same weekend as Stall Fall, so it’ll be a busy weekend of ultimate! More info after the break…

Update from Worlds

Caitlind Lusty and Shaw Dungate are both playing in the World Championships this week.

The junior open team went 5-2 to finish second in the preliminary round—they get an automatic seeding in the semifinals.

The junior womens’ team went 2-4 in the initial round, so will need to win the C pool to get to the championships. Canada and the USA both won their first two games, so the head-to-head match-up (Thursday, 12:00 EDT) will decide who goes on.

UPDATE:
The junior open team lost in the finals to the USA, 17-7.

The junior women finished the medal round in fifth. Japan won the tournament.

Check out this week’s Barrie Advance for a great article on Caitlen and Shaw heading to Worlds, written by our own Colleen Winter.

The dice are ready to roll!

Wednesday night practices are starting this week (April 30) at Barrie Central (see ‘field locations 2008′).  We’ll be starting around 6:30 p.m. and any women who are interested in touring or just want to check it out and get some practice time in are welcome to attend.

See you there,

Katie and Sarah

Hello Ladies!

Well I see the men’s team has beat us to the forum, but since there’s still snow on the ground, I think we still have some time to get organized :) Last year the women of Barrie started the league’s first women’s touring team “Dice”.  We played a few warm-up tournaments in Toronto and Ottawa and then made a name for ourselves at Nationals in Toronto.  This year we’re really hoping to have a committed and competitive group of women from Barrie that can play together all season and hopefully make the trip out to Calgary for Nationals in August.

We’re really excited about growing women’s ultimate in Barrie this summer so we’d like to get lots of women out to our practices, regardless of experience or ability.  Practices last year were a lot of fun and provided a great chance for improving fitness and skills.  We’ll post dates and locations of the Wednesday night practices in a few weeks, but for now, if you’r'e interested in practicing and/or touring, please email: womens.touring@barrieultimate.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Looking forward to getting the season started!

Sarah and Katie

Hey Boys,

This post is for all of the fellas in the league that are interested in stepping up their game into a more competitive level. For anyone who doesn’t know last year Barrie put a Mens team into Canadian Nationals and we placed 13th out of 20, losing to the team ranked 5th in Canada by only 3 points. It was an amazing experience playing at the national level and helped put Barrie on the map in the ultimate community. This brings us to the current year. As the snow starts to melt it is time to start thinking about braving the wind and heading back outside to play some real ultimate.

So for all the Men in the league, if you are interested in playing on Barrie’s Mens team (whether you have never played, just started or are a seasoned vet) then please e-mail me at kooch_rox@hotmail.com for more information.

 Seven Strong.
