Summer Rec League

You are currently browsing the archive for the Summer Rec League category.

Hi everyone,

There was a minor mix-up about the field at the soccer complex (BSC#3) – we DO NOT have that field until June. This means that all games scheduled there for May have been moved. I apologize for the error.

BSC#3-1 games will go at Codrington (the school field) and BSC#3-2 games will go at Allandale Heights (also school field). Please note this in your calendars!

Hi everyone,

The snow is gone, the grass is growing, and it’s time to get ready for summer ultimate! We have a great season planned for you so get your cleats out and read on for this season’s info. New stuff for each league is first, then the summary of the things that we usually do just as a reminder.

We are just in the process of wrapping up an another successful indoor winter session and it is time to start dusting off those cleats and think about heading outside. Our outdoor season will be starting May 10th and we hope to have registration up and running by Friday April 9th. Please keep checking our website for further details.
For those that are interested in playing on Thursday nights in our competitive league, start emailing your friends and getting your teams together. Also, we are very excited to announce that we now offer a Tuesday night recreational league in addition. This will be offered in addition to our regular Monday night league play.
Meanwhile for those who have always thought about becoming more involved in the league now is your chance. We our holding our Annual AGM Tuesday April 6th at 7:00pm at the Barrie Sports Dome Lounge. At the meeting we will be discussing our upcoming outdoor season including both our recreational and competitive divisions as well as the continuing development of our new Juniors league. Plus, we are always looking for volunteers to join our executive.
Hope to see you there!

REC PLAY-OFFS

The schedule for the day is here. The standings for the 10 teams playing are:

1st-I     2nd-K    3rd-B    4th-L    5th-M    6th-N   7th-F    8th-A   9th-C/D  10th-J

The first games are at 8:30 am, last round-robin games are at 12:30 pm, and the Championship is at 1:30 pm.

Each team has one bye so if you like sleeping in, check to see when yours is just in case!

There will be water and snacks, and a lunch BBQ will be provided. Spectators are welcome so bring them out. Canine spectators must be on leashes and cannot be used as subs.

Teams A, B, M and N, your games are on field 6, not field 3. Fields all have numbers on little signs near them so it should be easy to find!

Captains on the individual fields will make their own judgment, but right now there’s no reason to cancel tonight’s games.  The city has closed the baseball fields, but not the soccer fields at BSC.

REC PLAY-OFFS

The Rec play-offs will be a tournament on Saturday, August 29 at the Tree Nursery in Midhurst. Games will start in the morning and finish by early afternoon. Games will be time-capped and shorter than the Monday night ones!

This will be updated with more information as the date approaches, so for now ask your captains if you have any questions.

If your game was at the Barrie Sports Complex last week and was cancelled, we are working on rescheduling, but I need to know if enough players for each team can make a Wednesday night game. Please let your captains know before this Friday (July 10) so that we can work out either rescheduled dates or another alternative.

For future reference, if you do not hear from anyone about a cancellation but think it’s a possibility, the BSC info line for inclement weather is (705) 739-4215.

Tonight’s games at the Sports Complex are cancelled due to the rain.

As of June 1, Central is closed for maintenance. All Rec games that were scheduled for Central are at INNISDALE. The updated schedule is here: 09_rec_schedule.

UPDATE:  The website schedule is now updated, and Innisdale is on the map page.
—Ian.

Here is the new list of teams: 09_rec_teams_final

Changes were as minimal as I could make them while trying to accommodate requests and skill and gender balancing.

Please make sure you read over the new team lists to make sure you know which team you are on.

Please also note that as of June 1, all games listed as being at Central will be at Innisdale due to field maintenance scheduling. A new schedule with that change will be posted by June 1.

There have been a number of requests for Rec, either to add someone (usually a friend) or to switch to a different team, so please take note:

I will NOT be making ANY changes until after the games on Monday, May 18. This is to give the captains a chance to evaluate the teams as they are and to let me know if there are any serious discrepancies. After I hear from all captains after the next game, I will look into the changes and additions I have been asked about. I will then make any/all changes at the same time, and inform everyone that is affected by them. If anyone wishes to play, or has a friend that is thinking about it, please email me (talena@barrieultimate.com) and ask me to put you on my waiting list. Girls especially, as we need more females for most teams.

Please also note that the fee for Rec is $95 as there is a late fee.

The website is now updated for Rec and Comp.

Recreational League:  Teams, Schedule, and Standings.

Competitive League:  Schedule and Standings.

Hi everyone,

You should have received an email through the ODSA website with this attached, please let me know if you didn’t.

Here are the teams for this season!

summer 2009 rec teams

Are Monday May 11 (this coming Monday) at 6:30 pm at these fields: North, Central, Allandale. I have tentative teams and schedule done, but am waiting to finalize them until tonight because of some late registrations. Don’t worry, you will know which team you’re on and which field to go to before Monday.

Hi everyone,

If you still haven’t registered, you can do so until 5 pm on Wednesday, May 6; but there’s a late fee of $15. This means that Rec teams and schedule will not be posted until Thursday evening. Games still start on May 11 for Rec and May 14 for Competitive. There will be an email with Rec teams and schedules that night as well as the posting, and I will then send some other things you need to know. So please READ THAT EMAIL in full.
Competitive teams, you still have some time to pay your first $100 and sign up, so even if you’ve told someone you have a team, please PAY, officially tell Jim, and make sure all your players register as ODSA members.

Talena

If you are interested in running a comp league team this summer, you need to get a $100 team deposit in by Friday, May 8.

If you are interested in playing on a comp team, post up on the forum and/or contact the convenors.  The cost for comp is the $500 team fee divided amongst the team members.

The competitive league convenors are Tyler Cochrane and Jim Millington.  Please contact them at tyler@barrieultimate.com and jim@barrieultimate.com.

Some comments on the registration for summer rec league.

REGISTRATION

If you haven’t already registered for Rec League, do so now!  The registration will close today or tomorrow—depending on when Talena starts assembling teams.  If you have any questions, contact talena@barrieultimate.com.

Registration is a two-step process:

  1. Register as an ODSA member here.  (Membership type is “Ultimate Organization Club Members”)
  2. Once your membership is activated (check your email), go through the registration here.

JERSEYS

If you’ve already registered and you ordered a jersey, it’s not going to be mailed to you.  You’ll need to see me (Ian) to pick it up.  I’ll be keeping the box of jerseys in my car trunk for the first few games, and will try to visit the various fields.  (Also, don’t worry if, say, you ordered a medium and you want a large.  We’re just using the ordering system to make payments easier.)

If you still want a jersey, you can pay cash ($30) when you see me.

PROBLEMS WITH REGISTRATION

We switched registration from ITSportsNet to ODSA for this session.  The basic reason for this was that ODSA provides our insurance and required that every member register with them to get coverage, and we didn’t want people to have to visit towo sites to register for the league.

The ODSA site is brand new and has had problems.  Chris Lowcock, the ODSA admin, has been dealing with them as quickly as he can, but I know that some people have found the new registration process frustrating.

I’d like to hear what the problems have been so I’ve created a posting on the forum to let you give feedback.  If you had problems, post up here.

When registering for summer rec league, you have a number of options, now including the credit card payment we thought was set up initially. So if you haven’t registered yet, when you do so you can pay in one of the following ways:

  • Credit card online
  • Bring a cheque or cash to the Lockerroom on Thursday, April 30, between 7:00 and 8:30.
  • Send an Interac money transfer to Becki at treasurer@barrieultimate.com.
  • Use PayPal (lets you pay online without revealing your credit card info, once you have a PayPal account).
  • Contact Becki at treasurer@barrieultimate.com to arrange mailing her a cheque.

If you have already registered, you may cancel your registration and then re-register and pay online with a credit card. If you want to do this, please email me at talena@barrieultimate.com.

You won’t be able to play until you’ve paid in full.

Once I have all the registrations in and teams/schedule made up, I will email everyone with those and a few of our policies that you need to know about. They will be posted too, and your captains will have your info so they can also let you know. That should take 4-5 days.

Hi everyone!
Welcome to a new summer season. There are some changes this year to registration, mainly that it is through the provincial ultimate organization (Ontario Disc Sports Organization), so there will be no more paper waivers to sign. Also, the fee is lower for Rec as jerseys are not included. Everyone that played Rec last year got a red away jersey, so this year if you’re new, there’s the option for you to get one when you register – highly recommended so that you aren’t trying to find a shirt every week. Plus, they look good and they’re great to play in.
PLEASE NOTE THAT REGISTRATION FOR BOTH LEAGUES CLOSES ON FRIDAY, MAY 1.

REC:
It’s a two-step process on the ODSA website (www.ondisc.org). First, you register as a member of ODSA, which includes your waiver and insurance (click “Register” on the left-hand side). Second, you sign in as a member and click on our registration (Barrie Summer Rec league 2009; it’s listed under Calendar & Events) to fill out the info we need for our league and to pay for registration.
Everyone MUST register online. For those of you that want to pay in person and/or pick up a jersey, there will once again be a pub night – Thursday, April 30 at the Lockerroom on Cundles.
You register as an individual, but groups of up to six can be requested.
I still need some more captains (thanks very much to those of you that have volunteered!), and there will be another email after registration closes with further information about games and the league.
As usual, Rec games are Monday nights. First game will be Monday, May 11.
____________________________________________________________________
COMPETITIVE:
Jim Millington is the convenor for Comp. If you are playing Competitive but not Rec, you still have to register as a member of ODSA so you have the waiver and insurance taken care of. It is then a team fee for Comp ($500 just like last year), so either get a team together then let Jim know, or let him know you want to play but don’t have a team. As per last year, please also use the FORUM to let people know you’re putting a team together or want to play on one. Try the forum first so Jim isn’t bombarded by masses of mail.
On or before May 1, $100 is due per team. The other $400 is due before the first game of the season, or that game is forfeited – again, just like last year.
As usual, Competitive games are on Thursdays. First games will be Thursday, May 14.

Have fun and see you on the field!
Talena

I know you’re all antsy to get registered for your summer season, so to ease the suspense:

Registration should be up and running by Monday. You will be able to order a shirt if you want one – highly recommended that new players order a red “away” shirt – and can pay online. Registration will close on May 1, and the first games will be the week of May 11.

If you want to see us and give us money in person (I always like having lots of cash!), a few of us exec will be at the Lockerroom on Cundles on May 1.

We still need more CAPTAINS. If you don’t volunteer, I may just pick you anyway…

As always, if you have questions about summer rec, email me at talena@barrieultimate.com.

It’s that time of year again – the snow is just a temporary glitch – so get your cleats and summer wear ready! We are expecting at least 12 Rec teams again this year, and we need CAPTAINS. As we had last year, there will be fully loaded Captain’s Packages and meetings to help you on your way. I’d also like to remind those of you wanting to play Competitive that it is team registration, so if you want to play, start looking for teammates. We will need captains for this league too, so please identify yourself on the forum if you want to captain a Comp team.

Email Talena (Summer Rec Convenor) at talena@barrieultimate.com to let me know you’d like to be a captain for Rec. Thanks to all of you that do!

There have been some inquiries about summer league.  Don’t worry, all your questions will be answered soon!  We should have info and a schedule up in a few weeks with all the details for summer registration.

There won’t be many changes from last year, but until we’ve got everything settled, here’s the overview from 2008.  If you have any questions, send them to talena@barrieultimate.com.

10 teams squared off on a hot saturday to see who would be declared the 2008 BUL rec league champions. After the 2 pools of teams played their round robin games Jim Millington’s “Inconceivable” was set to meet Aaron Kucheraway’s “Eh” in the final. The other teams stuck around to enjoy the burgers and the jumping castle and to watch the final.

Aaron Kucheraway’s “Eh” came out on top and claimed the trophy for 2008 – congratulations.

Thanks to everyone that helped out this year it was a great season. If you are interested in helping out next year email me at president@barrieultimate.com.

Special thanks to:

Talena – summer convenor                                   Ian – merchandise and Vice Pres

Brad – feilds co-ordinator                                    Kristy / Becki – Treasurers

Steve – he arranged all the prizes and the free food for the BBQ!!!

Jeremy – water guy!!                                             Pete B - BBQ delivery master

And all the captains for helping keep everyone informed.

Keep and eye on the website as indoor league will start around Sept 22 – registration to open soon.

Andy Beecroft – BUL President

Hi everyone,

The Rec season finals will be a playoff tournament on Saturday, August 23 at the Tree Nursery (this should not be a surprise to anyone). Games will start (as in line up and pull) at 9 a.m. Your captains will be getting details on Wed., Aug. 13 about format etc.

There will be a BBQ lunch provided after the games, and there will be cups games available, a skills competition, AND a bouncy castle for the kids (or very light adults). Please bring your kids! Fans are welcome, as always.

Okay Ulti Parents and Kids!!

The next installment of our Juniors Clinic will be held on Wednesday, June 4th at Barrie Central Collegiate, starting at 7:00 p.m. and running until 8:30 p.m.

We had a very succesful first clinic in the dome in April and we’re hoping for an even bigger turnout in June.  We are looking for any kids age 6-13 who want to get out and play some ultimate, learn some new skills and have some FUN!

Remeber, there will be an adult clinic for new players this evening as well, so we’re the perfect form of babysitting if you were planning on attending :)

If you have any questions or need more details, please email:

katie@barrieultimate.com

… the teams are finalized as of 11:30 a.m. today and registration will no longer be available. Anyone seeing this after that time, if you are desperate to play the men’s and women’s touring teams practice at Central on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., and there may still be room on a competitive team on Thursday nights (see prior post by Andy Beecroft).

Teams and schedule will be posted by Wednesday, May 7.

Registration for summer rec league closes tonight. If you want to play, you must register on-line by the end of the day.

If you can’t pay on-line, come on down to the British Arms tonight (7-10pm)—Kristy will be accepting cheques.

Forget about the two feet of snow on the lawn—summer league is coming!

As in years past, the recreational league will be Monday nights, from May 12 to August 18. The league is open to all players—if you’ve never played before, this is where to start.

Here are some preliminary dates and details:
