Its almost time to register for the winter indoor season. We will have the registration link up and running in the next couple of weeks, so keep checking the site. Indoor Ultimate is a great way to learn the game and build your skills for the summer season so make sure you register and invite your friends to join.

Fall Indoor Playoff Schedule

The fall indoor playoffs will start Monday December 1st and run for three weeks, ending December 15. Your teams schedule will be determined by your final placement during the regular season. The top eight teams will have a chance to win the season, with the first week 1st playing 8th, 2nd playing 7th, etc. The winners of the first week continue towards the finals with all other teams playing consolation games. Every team will get to play each week, win or lose. The schedule will be posted after all regular season games are played. Best of luck to everyone.

Indoor league starts tomorrow night!

Tyler has formed all the teams. Find out who you’re playing with here. If you’ve got issues, talk to Tyler.

6pm - Love’s Labour Lost v. Romeo and Juliet

7pm - Much Ado About Nothing v. Hamlet

8pm - MacBeth v. Taming of the Shrew

9pm - Othello v. Twelfth Night

10pm - As You Like It v. The Tempest

We’ll get the schedule for the rest of the season up on ITSportsNet later this week.

Please arrive early for your game so that you can meet up with your new team.

Important: Tyler has put everyone on a team. If you haven’t paid, you cannot play. Bring a cheque for $150 made out to “Barrie Ultimate League” and give it to Tyler before your game.

Registration is now open. Click here to get started.

The deadline for registration is Friday, September 19 (or once we’ve hit a full ten teams). You must have fully registered and paid by the deadline or you will NOT be put on a team. No excuses, no exceptions*.

You can only register online— no paper registrations! Also, you can’t play until we’ve received signed copies of the Waiver and Code of Conduct.

Before you can register, please review the Skills Self-Assessment—you’ll need your five self-rankings to register.

FEES	The fee for Fall Indoor is $120.
PAYMENT	There are three options for paying: Pay online. This is totally the simplest way for us to get you fully registered. In person. We’ll be at the Lockerroom on Cundles on Thursday, September 18 from 7:30 to 9:00 to accept cash and cheques. Shirts will also be available for sale. By mail. You can send a cheque to Barrie Ultimate League, 224 Dunlop St E, Barrie, ON, L4M 1B5.
TEAM MAKING	At registration every player must self-assess his/her abilities. Teams are then selected by the league convenors with the intent of balancing gender split, speed, handling, height, and experience.
GROUP ENTRIES	Barrie Ultimate does not allow complete teams to register together. We encourage players to register as individuals or couples (spouses, car-poolers, etc.), and will make sure that all couples play together.We will accept groups of up to six players. We will attempt to place the entire group on the same team, but will not guarantee this—team balance will take priority.
JERSEYS	Most players played in summer rec and received a red Barrie Ultimate “away” jersey with their registration. Jerseys aren’t included with indoor registration, but we encourage everyone to buy a “home” and an “away” jersey. They’re superlight Patagonia dri-fit jerseys and only cost $23 each. Jerseys will be available at the pub night and I’ll have a stock with me every Monday. Email me at ian@barrieultimate.com to make arrangements.
CONVENORS	Our new indoor convenors are Tyler Cochrane and Shauna Taylor. If you’re interested in being a captain, drop them an email at indoorconvenor@barrieultimate.com. We’d love to see new faces getting involved, so don’t be shy!

* If you’ve got exceptional financial circumstances, please contact Kristy, our treasurer, before the deadline. Ask nicely and she might cut you some slack.

Rec Season Champions Decided - EH!

10 teams squared off on a hot saturday to see who would be declared the 2008 BUL rec league champions. After the 2 pools of teams played their round robin games Jim Millington’s “Inconceivable” was set to meet Aaron Kucheraway’s “Eh” in the final. The other teams stuck around to enjoy the burgers and the jumping castle and to watch the final.

Aaron Kucheraway’s “Eh” came out on top and claimed the trophy for 2008 - congratulations.

Rec Playoff Tournament, BBQ and other fun stuff

Hi everyone,

The Rec season finals will be a playoff tournament on Saturday, August 23 at the Tree Nursery (this should not be a surprise to anyone). Games will start (as in line up and pull) at 9 a.m. Your captains will be getting details on Wed., Aug. 13 about format etc.

There will be a BBQ lunch provided after the games, and there will be cups games available, a skills competition, AND a bouncy castle for the kids (or very light adults). Please bring your kids! Fans are welcome, as always.

Tip of the Week - Fouls & Violations

This is a very large topic, so we’ll start with what a foul is, what a violation is, and the “call / contest” stuff.

Basically, a foul and a violation are both ways that the rules of the game are broken. A foul is defined as “non-incidental contact between opposing players… in general the player initiating the contact has committed the foul.” A violation is “any infraction of the rules other than a foul.” So basically, if you hit someone on the other team and it affects the play (e.g. marker hits thrower’s arm and throw is affected), it’s a foul, if you break a rule but don’t touch them, it’s a violation (e.g. double team or fast count). The person that is fouled calls the foul / violation, usually, though in the Spirit of the Game with new people involved sometimes the person committing the foul/violation will call it on themselves. After it’s called, the person that broke the rules can either agree or contest (disagree), in the case of a foul; or in the case of a violation, “fix” whatever the violation was (e.g. move farther away, slow the stall count). There are specific responses to calls, contests, etc., based on the foul/violation, which are detailed in the rules. Next week we’ll look at the continuation rule, and then we’ll start in on the fouls, violations and appropriate “following actions”.

Juniors Clinic #2

Okay Ulti Parents and Kids!!

The next installment of our Juniors Clinic will be held on Wednesday, June 4th at Barrie Central Collegiate, starting at 7:00 p.m. and running until 8:30 p.m.

We had a very succesful first clinic in the dome in April and we’re hoping for an even bigger turnout in June. We are looking for any kids age 6-13 who want to get out and play some ultimate, learn some new skills and have some FUN!

Remeber, there will be an adult clinic for new players this evening as well, so we’re the perfect form of babysitting if you were planning on attending

… the teams are finalized as of 11:30 a.m. today and registration will no longer be available. Anyone seeing this after that time, if you are desperate to play the men’s and women’s touring teams practice at Central on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., and there may still be room on a competitive team on Thursday nights (see prior post by Andy Beecroft).
