We just got an order of discs in stock.  They are Daredevil Discs in a variety of colours: lots of white and translucent white, limited quantities of yellow, orange, light orange, green, pink, sky blue, and mauve.

Discs are only $12 each.  If you’d like to buy one, drop me an email at ian@barrieultimate.com, or find me on the field.  I play Mondays (Team C) and Thursdays.

Fall Indoor League

LATE REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE HERE:  http://www.ondisc.org/event/BUfallin

Go dig the indoor shoes out of the closet—ultimate in the Sportsdome starts on Monday, September 28!

Registration is now open.

Our insurance is provided by Ontario Disc Sports Association, so all players must register with them.  If you are already an ODSA member (i.e., if you registered in the spring) you can start the league registration here.

Otherwise, you must first register for ODSA.  Start here.  You will receive a confirmation email—check your spam folder if you don’t see an email right away.  Once you’re registered and confirmed for ODSA, you can then proceed to the league registration.

The deadline for registration is Friday, September 25th (or once we’ve hit a full ten teams). You must have fully registered and paid by the deadline or you will NOT be put on a team. No excuses, no exceptions*.

Ultimate Junkies (Newmarket Ultimate and surrounding area league) are hosting their first “annual” Flying Hi Tourney on Sept 12 and 13th in Newmarket, at Bayview Park (aka – George Richardson Park).
The cost is $42 a player and includes a continental breakfast, prizes, $5 East Side Mario’s Voucher (Newmarket location) and admission into a Saturday night “Flying Hi” Party at the White Rabbit (Main St. Newmarket).   Information can be found here or by email contact@ultimatejunkies.com.
If you’re interested in going as part of a Barrie Ultimate contingent, email Steve VanderSchee at steven@barrieultimate.com.

Captains on the individual fields will make their own judgment, but right now there’s no reason to cancel tonight’s games.  The city has closed the baseball fields, but not the soccer fields at BSC.

Tonight’s games at the Sports Complex are cancelled due to the rain.

If you need new cleats or gear, check out the Adidas Friends & Family Sale: 40% off all orders, June 17-19. Use the code “adisave40″ when you check out. Details here.

The website is now updated for Rec and Comp.

Recreational League:  Teams, Schedule, and Standings.

Competitive League:  Schedule and Standings.

If you are interested in running a comp league team this summer, you need to get a $100 team deposit in by Friday, May 8.

If you are interested in playing on a comp team, post up on the forum and/or contact the convenors.  The cost for comp is the $500 team fee divided amongst the team members.

The competitive league convenors are Tyler Cochrane and Jim Millington.  Please contact them at tyler@barrieultimate.com and jim@barrieultimate.com.

Some comments on the registration for summer rec league.

REGISTRATION

If you haven’t already registered for Rec League, do so now!  The registration will close today or tomorrow—depending on when Talena starts assembling teams.  If you have any questions, contact talena@barrieultimate.com.

Registration is a two-step process:

  1. Register as an ODSA member here.  (Membership type is “Ultimate Organization Club Members”)
  2. Once your membership is activated (check your email), go through the registration here.

JERSEYS

If you’ve already registered and you ordered a jersey, it’s not going to be mailed to you.  You’ll need to see me (Ian) to pick it up.  I’ll be keeping the box of jerseys in my car trunk for the first few games, and will try to visit the various fields.  (Also, don’t worry if, say, you ordered a medium and you want a large.  We’re just using the ordering system to make payments easier.)

If you still want a jersey, you can pay cash ($30) when you see me.

PROBLEMS WITH REGISTRATION

We switched registration from ITSportsNet to ODSA for this session.  The basic reason for this was that ODSA provides our insurance and required that every member register with them to get coverage, and we didn’t want people to have to visit towo sites to register for the league.

The ODSA site is brand new and has had problems.  Chris Lowcock, the ODSA admin, has been dealing with them as quickly as he can, but I know that some people have found the new registration process frustrating.

I’d like to hear what the problems have been so I’ve created a posting on the forum to let you give feedback.  If you had problems, post up here.

The wind storm last night has blown down the Sportsdome, so the games scheduled for April 6 are cancelled.  We don’t know yet if or when we can schedule the last games.  We’ll post on the website and send out an email when we know more information.

There have been some inquiries about summer league.  Don’t worry, all your questions will be answered soon!  We should have info and a schedule up in a few weeks with all the details for summer registration.

There won’t be many changes from last year, but until we’ve got everything settled, here’s the overview from 2008.  If you have any questions, send them to talena@barrieultimate.com.

“705” is Barrie’s competitive, co-ed juniors team that attended the Nationals in 2007 and placed 8th in their division. This year the Nationals are in Winnipeg and we plan on putting a team together to put forth a strong showing to reach for GOLD this time around.

“705” is running off-season practices/try-outs at the Barrie Sports Dome. We will run outdoor try-outs/practices on Wednesdays starting in the spring. These are open events and allow the individual to develop skill and give the coach an opportunity to see you play before the final team roster is decided.

The team is open to everyone 18 or under (as of December 31 of the year of the event).  Anyone can come out to the practices, but you need to be invited to the games.  Each practice has a nominal fee to cover the cost of the venue that is being used.   If you’re looking for something new or you just want to raise your game, come on out!

Need more information?  Check the Facebook group, or contact us directly at 705@barrieultimate.com.

We’ve received announcements for two tournaments being held on September 13-14: the Spirit Ultimate Charity Tournament in Ottawa, and a hat tournament in North Bay (raising funds for a 13-year-old girl who was diagnosed with brain cancer).

I’ve set up separate forum discussions for each tournament, here and here. This is also the same weekend as Stall Fall, so it’ll be a busy weekend of ultimate! More info after the break…

Update from Worlds

Caitlind Lusty and Shaw Dungate are both playing in the World Championships this week.

The junior open team went 5-2 to finish second in the preliminary round—they get an automatic seeding in the semifinals.

The junior womens’ team went 2-4 in the initial round, so will need to win the C pool to get to the championships. Canada and the USA both won their first two games, so the head-to-head match-up (Thursday, 12:00 EDT) will decide who goes on.

UPDATE:
The junior open team lost in the finals to the USA, 17-7.

The junior women finished the medal round in fifth. Japan won the tournament.

Check out this week’s Barrie Advance for a great article on Caitlen and Shaw heading to Worlds, written by our own Colleen Winter.

Registration for summer rec league closes tonight. If you want to play, you must register on-line by the end of the day.

If you can’t pay on-line, come on down to the British Arms tonight (7-10pm)—Kristy will be accepting cheques.

No more spam?

I made some changes to the forum on Monday, and we haven’t had any spam since!

Also, I deleted all the spam members—about a thousand since June! I don’t think I deleted any legit ones, but if I’ve erased your profile, sorry about that. You’ll have to re-register.

I hope this will keep all the junk out of the forum. Check it out.

For the past few years Markus Baumann has taken care of all the B.U.L. web admin. With an expanding business and a growing family, he’s handing the reins over. Thanks for everything you’ve done, Markus!

This website will be a work-in-progress as I learn the new software platform. Any suggestions, do let me know at info@barrieultimate.com.
