SUMMER REGISTRATION IS OPEN

Hi everyone,

The snow is gone, the grass is growing, and it’s time to get ready for summer ultimate! We have a great season planned for you so get your cleats out and read on for this season’s info. New stuff for each league is first, then the summary of the things that we usually do just as a reminder.

REC:

New Night

This year we will be running a Rec league on Monday nights as usual AND we will have a league running on Tuesday nights (same format, skill level, spirit, etc. as Mondays). You can play on one night or both. When you register, you will have the option of registering for Monday night, Tuesday night, or Both. If you would like to play on Monday OR Tuesday but it doesn’t matter which, just choose one to register in and then you can select “Either” in the “night preference” drop-down menu.

Fees

It’s $80 for one night or $150 for both. You must have paid to be put on the list for team-making; if you have not paid by the time registration closes, there are no guarantees that you will be put on a team later.

Registration & Pub Night

It will run until April 30, and there will be a Pub Night that night (Friday, April 30) for those of you that wish to pay cash. Pub Night will be at Kensington’s, which will be the after-game social gathering spot with deals on food and drinks. Pub Night will be the pre-season “meet and greet” for the league, so even if you are not registering or paying that night, come out to meet your league and win some gear.

Season Dates

The season will start the week of May 10 and run until the week of August 23. For the Monday league, play-offs will be a tournament on Saturday, August 28; for the Tuesday league play-offs will be on Tuesday nights (e.g. August 10, 17, 24).

Game Times

Games start at 6:30 pm and will end at 8:30 pm. In the past, games have not started on time and there have been issues with hard caps when it is light really late. Therefore, all games will start and end at the designated times.

Social

Everyone is encouraged to stop by Kensington’s after games to talk, eat, drink, and have fun off the field too. Our Social Convenor will be getting us some sweet deals and the details will be given to you by your captain on the first night.

Juniors

There is a Junior league available, so players under 16 wishing to play in the adult Rec league will be placed at the discretion of the convenor. (also see the “Juniors” section below).

“The Usual”:

  • We need captains so if you want to volunteer contact the Rec convenor (talena@barrieultimate.com or convenor@barrieultimate.com); packages will be given out again with all the info you need so if you’re new to it, we’ve got you covered.
  • Registration is as an individual and groups of up to 6 may ask to play together as long as all of you ask to play with each other (so A asks to play with B, C and D, B asks to play with A, C and D, etc.). Teams are made by the convenor and will be made with balance as the first priority – it is highly likely but not guaranteed that groups will be kept together.
  • The first two games are exhibition to introduce the game and rules to new players and to check the balance of teams.
  • No zone defence for the first four games.
  • We play on ALL Mondays, including those that fall on a long weekend.
  • Players are strongly encouraged to have a white and a red jersey, which can be purchased in the Barrie Ultimate League section of the ODSA website.
  • Players self-rank when registering; PLEASE read the ranking descriptions as it makes the league much more fun when the ranks are accurate and teams can be put together well.
  • There will be an end-of-season bbq at the tournament for Mondays, and after the last game for Tuesdays.

COMPETITIVE:

This league runs on Thursday nights and there is room for 8 teams this year.

TEAMS are put in rather than individuals, with a team fee of $400: $100 due prior to April 30 and the rest due before the first game or the team forfeits.

Season starts the week of May 10 and runs through to the week of August 23, play-offs are on Thursday nights.

Team captains are to contact the convenors with a whole or partial team.

All players must register online to sign the waiver but the fee is paid to your captain.

Captains will submit a roster to the convenor (jim@barrieultimate.com or tyler@barrieultimate.com) and this will be checked against the list of registered players.

To PLAY in the Competitive league you do not need to be a star player; this league is for those that want to play in a large group of friends, or step up their game. If you are interested in playing in this league, you have the following options:

  1. get a group of friends together and put in a full team with one of you as a captain
  2. put in a partial team (so a group of less than 12-14) and let the convenors know you want a few more players
  3. contact the convenors as individuals or pairs and ask to be put in contact with captains seeking players, or put on a “hat team”

JUNIOR:

Diana Davis and Julianna Lerch have done a fantastic job starting up a Junior program with Fall and Winter indoor leagues, and there will be a summer Junior league as well for players aged 12 – 18 years.

The season will run on MONDAY nights (6:30-8:30)  in June and July with a night or two in May for clinics/practices.

Registration will be online.

With this league available, players under 16 wishing to play in the adult Rec league will be placed at the discretion of the convenor.

Volunteer coaches are needed; if you are interested, please contact diana@barrieultimate.com and/or julianna@barrieultimate.com.

All players coaching Juniors that wish to play Rec as well will be guaranteed to play on Tuesday nights (i.e. if there is a waiting list, they will be on teams rather than on the waiting list).
